HSMC currently has three job openings:

Information Technology Coordinator

Historic St. Mary’s City seeks a full-time IT Coordinator.  The IT Coordinator reports to the Deputy Director and will be responsible for implementing and coordinating overall IT daily operations and initiatives for Historic St. Mary’s City.  The incumbent will provide guidance and service to enable end-users to perform a wide-range of critical tasks that support the museum’s mission and goals.  The IT Coordinator will work cooperatively with the IT staff of St. Mary’s College of Maryland in order to ensure smooth operations for a linked network. 

Responsibilities Include:

- Develop and implement plan for system-wide preventative maintenance and equipment replacement/improvement to support the museum’s evolving technological needs.  This includes but is not limited to network servers, computers and equipment, copiers, and phone system.  

- Create and maintain IT equipment budget implementing replacement/improvement recommendations based upon technical requirement s and cost-benefit analysis.   

- Develop and actively manage a HelpDesk system for IT related technical issues. 

-Provide assistance to HSMC staff members to resolve technical issues in a professional, thorough and timely manner.  Including but not limited to:

  • support/troubleshooting network issues for Windows XP/Windows 7
  • synchronizing mobile devices in Microsoft Exchange environment
  • support/troubleshooting Microsoft Office 2003/2007
  • maintaining/troubleshooting Quickbooks point of sale system in a multi register client/server environment

- Evaluate donated hardware, install operating system and device drivers, connect systems to the network.

- Actively oversee contractors/vendors performing work related to technical equipment on HSMC property.

- Working with the Marketing Director and other pertinent staff members, responsible for creating new content and updating existing information on the HSMC website to ensure accurate information is available to the public.

Job Requirements:

- Basic PC hardware/software troubleshooting skills

- Ability to solve network problems in a Windows XP/Windows 7 desktop client environment

- Experience with support/troubleshooting in a Microsoft Exchange environment including Microsoft Office 2003/2007 and connection of mobile devices

- Ability to maintain and troubleshoot Quickbooks point of sale system in a multi register client/server environment

Education and  Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology preferred. Any acceptable combination of education, experience, and training.  A+ certification and Netplus certification preferred.

Compensation:

            Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.  This position is an non-benefited contractual position.

Facilities and Grounds Manager

Historic St. Mary’s City seeks a full-time Facilities and Grounds Manager.  Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Facilities & Grounds Manager is a valuable member of the Museum’s management team.  The Manager is responsible for the overall material condition, plant operations, fiscal maintenance planning and budgeting, inspections, and corrective and preventive maintenance for all structures, signs, fences, utilities, roads, and support equipment used in performing these functions.  Maintenance of the landscape is coordinated with the Landscape Curator and the Events & Facilities Manager.

The Facilities & Grounds Manager will interface with the Departments of General Services in Maryland’s state government in order to prepare and submit appropriate reports, request facility maintenance support, and complete maintenance or construction projects.  The Manager is also responsible for the acquisition and maintenance of required certifications (i.e. asbestos removal) for appropriate department staff.  

The Museum current has approximately 100 structures of various sizes encompassing a gross total square footage of approximately 120,000 square feet; Of the 36 full-time staff, the Facilities & Grounds Manager will supervise 6 - 8 subordinates and manages the department budget.  The Manager is considered a working member of the department and will share expertise and contribute labor as necessary to ensure smooth operations.

Responsibilities include:

- Oversees the performance of all HSMC-hired maintenance contractors.

- Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, develops and implements the Facilities & Grounds Department budget, which includes full-time and seasonal labor, program materials, supplies, and related support services; ensure necessary materials, supplies, equipment, and services.

- Directs purchasing, requisitioning and warehousing of adequate inventoried of supplies, materials and equipment and maintains records incidental to all activities of the facility.

- Reports to Deputy Director when making significant allocation decisions.

- Prepares annual budget for Facilities & Grounds Department.

- Prepares cost studies and develops standardized maintenance and preventive maintenance procedures.

- Acts as overall Facilities, Grounds, and Residential and Agricultural Property Manager.

- Develops and implements all in-house procedures necessary to ensure effective and efficient use of Department personnel to perform effective and timely facility maintenance. 

- Researches, prepares, and submits all required documents required by the Commission and/or other State agencies involved in facilities issues. 

- Acts as Vehicle Fleet Manager.

- In consultation with Landscape Curator, plans and directs landscaping of Museum grounds.

- Coordinates site activities with all on-site maintenance contractors, including those working on DGS contracts. 

- Acts as the Facility Safety Officer. 

- Advises and/or responds to emergencies on a 24-hour basis as needed.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Administration, Management, Science, or Engineering desired. Five years experience in facilities operations, general maintenance, safety, and administration. Five years’ supervisory experience. Specific trade experience a plus

MUSEUM INTERPRETER

Historic St. Mary’s City, a museum of living history and archaeology, located on the site of Maryland’s first capital (1634-1695), seeks qualified individuals for a part-time museum interpreter position in the Public Programs Department.  This is a part-time, seasonal position (at $9.00/hour) from early August through the end of November 2010, including weekends.  Hours can vary from 16 hours per week to 35 hours per week.  Interpreters work in 17th-century costume (provided).  Interpreters use third-person (non-character) techniques.  This unique position provides the opportunity to teach history to visitors of all ages and backgrounds in an outdoor classroom format at HSMC.  Enthusiasm, team-mentality, and desire to learn and develop 17th-century skills are must.  Candidates must also have excellent communication skills and be able to work with small and large groups.
